The 2018 Version of ISO 22000 Enhances Consumer Confidence

As a globally recognized certification body, RICI is eminently qualified to award ISO 22000 certificates with the company’s staff supporting clients through the entire process. You see, at RICI, we offer you more than a certificate: in addition to conducting the audit and certification process, we also offer advisory support and training on all aspects of the scheme, including: comprehensive training on all aspects of ISO 22000 and gap-analysis to determine how your organization may achieve the milestone.

What is ISO 22000? It is a Food Safety Management System that can be applied to any organization in the food and feed industries, regardless of size or sector. Becoming certified to ISO 22000 allows a company to show their customers that they have a food safety management system in place. This is becoming more and more important as customers demand safe food and food processors require that ingredients obtained from their suppliers be safe.

Unlike some of the other Food Safety Management Systems Certification programs (for example: FSSC 22000 and BRC), the ISO 22000 certification does not have specific requirements for prerequisite programs (PRPs) but requires that the organization identifies and implements the appropriate programs. This makes it more flexible and food organizations of any type can implement and be certified to ISO 22000.

The new version of ISO 22000 was issued in 2018 and follows the same High-Level Structure (HLS) as other ISO management system standards, such as ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. It is designed in such a way that it can be nicely integrated into an organization’s existing management processes, but can also be used alone.

ISO 22000 certification demonstrates your ongoing commitment to food safety, proves your integrity to the market and enhances consumer confidence in your brand. The potential benefits of ISO 22000 are numerous, but the most significant are tangible and demonstrable improvements in food safety performance and a greater level of assurance in the area of legal compliance.

The ISO 22000 standard enables your organization to build and operate a food safety management system within a well-defined and clear framework that is flexible to your business needs and expectations; understand what the actual risks are for the consumers and for your company; provide a tool for food safety performance improvement and the means to monitor and measure food safety performance effectively and better meet food safety legal compliance and corporate requirements.
